The Rimbey Multi-Stakeholder Group (RMSG) is holding an information evening and open house on the subject of Water: Preservation and Protection April 22 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Rimbey Community Centre.

The evening begins with a BBQ, followed by a panel of presenters and an opportunity for community members to meet and visit with oil and gas reps and other organizations in an open house format.

Presentations will begin at 6 pm. Presenters on the topic Water: Preservation and Protection will include The Farmer’s Advocate Office speaking on agriculture’s role in preserving and protecting water. A representative of the oil and gas industry will explain how the petroleum industry ensures that both groundwater and potable aquifers are protected.

The third speaker will be from Alberta Environment/Red Deer River Watershed Alliance. This presentation will provide a local overview of water and the state of the Blindman River Watershed.

The speakers will then take questions as a panel, followed by representatives from oil and gas companies active in the area providing updates on their planned activities in the region for the coming months.

After the formal presentation portion of the evening wraps at around 7:30 p.m., the community will have an opportunity to follow up with speakers, industry representatives and others in attendance during the open house part of this event which wraps up at 9 pm. Other organizations providing displays include the Energy Resources Conservation Board (ERCB) and the Parkland Airshed Management Zone (PAMZ).
