The Rimbey Women’s Conference will take place April 13 at the Peter Lougheed Community Centre.

The 34th annual Rimbey Women’s Conference is coming up April 13 at the Peter Lougheed Community Centre.

This year’s line up includes many empowering women, who will present at the day-long event.

The Women’s Conference dates back to 1985 when the Department of Agriculture and the District Home Economists wanted to put a conference together for the farm and ranch ladies. At that time it was called Me Day.

“All their celebrations that they had at that time were all the Wednesday around Valentine’s Day. They were always in February,” said Irene Steeves, chairperson with the Rimbey Women’s Conference.

Steeves said this will be the first conference back in three years due to COVID-19.

The event now takes place every April with a different theme every year. They try and match their keynote speaker to their theme. This year’s theme is A Fresh Outlook, with guest speaker Camilla Jones.

One of the first speakers in the morning will be Lorraine Morris, who will be talking about learning how to create a simple, personal and daily plan to increase your positive mental health, so you can feel more control over your life and enjoy better peace, mind and wellness.

Brenda Eaton will be doing a hands-on presentation on how to create bird nest pendants. People taking part will need to bring in a pair of needle nose pliers.

The third speaker in the morning involved Tanya Mercredi and Jaime Goudreau-Riopel. They will be running a session on how to organize photos in your cellphone and they have built a mini session on how to scan QR codes.

After the three morning sessions of speakers, there will be a break for an old fashioned roast beef lunch, which will be served by MaD Catering.

In the afternoon people will hear from Mandy Swanson of Mandy’s Fashions and Footwear. She will be bringing nine models with her, who will be modelling the upcoming spring line of clothes that will be coming into the store.

Jalane Hanna, taproom manager of Hawk Tail Brewery will be chatting about her story, and there will be some samples to try out.

Holly Waldron of Holly’s Greenhouse and her daughter Melissa will be bringing in a selection of succulents and planters to choose from. People will be given instruction to fill a planter they can take home. There is a $35 for supplies to pay on registration.

The final speaker will be Shelly Rimes, who is certified as a Therapeutic Massage Therapist, with a special interest in Sport Injury Massage and Body movement. She will be helping people find alternative natural pain relief and pain free movement.

The event will have coffee breaks and snacks throughout the day, along with an opportunity for vendors to come out and sell their products in between break times.

Steeves said all of the committee members who put this event on are volunteers who work hard to put on the conference yearly.

She added that they will be selling their scrolls again and will have door prizes available.

Doors open at 8 a.m. and the event runs until 4 p.m. People must register to attend the event. Early bird registration is $45. There will be brochures put out all around Rimbey and the surrounding areas with the registration form that people can fill out.
