The consensus seems to be that Wolf Creek Public School (WCPS) staff, students and families did a tremendous job navigating the ever-changing landscape that was the COVID-19 pandemic last year and the focus and effort continues this year with the division.
WCPS released their back to school plan earlier this week in a letter to parents.
There are several key initiatives that continue to be in development and they pertain to quality teaching, supporting all students, and having a collective responsibility to achieve our goals, says WCPS superintendent Tim De Ruyck.
“I am honored to be serving in the role of superintendent. I’ve been very impressed with the staff I have met already, and I am eager to continue the work to strengthen our effectiveness as a school division.”
The past school year was challenging for everyone, says De Ruyck.
“I have consistently heard feedback from all stakeholders regarding the efforts and attitudes from the previous year that applauds and extols how the entire division served the needs of our students through the challenges of the past year.”
This year WCPS will continue to prioritize the health and safety of students, while providing the learning environment they are accustomed to, says De Ruyck.
“The measures include promoting proper hand hygiene which includes providing sanitizer stations in schools, supporting those who choose to wear a mask, enhanced cleaning and sanitizing of schools, and ensuring air circulation and HVAC systems are working properly.”
It’s important that if a person’s child is sick, they need to stay home from school until they are well.
“Teachers will work with students to ensure they are supported if they miss school. Staff and families can use the Alberta daily self health checklist linked in the Division website.”
Enhancing emotional support for students is something Wolf Creek is also committed to, says De Ruyck.
“Through this commitment, all our schools will have access to school social work support.”
The Alberta Government is currently seeking public input on the draft K-6 curriculum.
“Although Wolf Creek is not piloting the proposed curriculum, families are encouraged to take a look on the government website and provide feedback,” said De Ruyck.
