Rimbey Junior Senior High School is back in performance action with The Butler Did It.
Students haven’t been able to put on a play for a couple of years due to COVID-19, but now they are in full swing, practicing for six weeks leading up to the performances.
The Butler Did It is a murder mystery surrounding a 1930s family where the butler is blamed for the murder.
Written by Todd Wallinger, the play has nine characters, all played by Grades 10 to 12 students.
“This year I’m excited because my Grade 12s will actually get their first time experience, just like the 11s and 10s, on the big stage and that’s a huge learning curve, it’s a totally different experience and bonding experience for them, so it really makes a difference,” said Shauna Murdoch, the school’s drama teacher.
Murdoch, who has been teaching in Rimbey for over 20 years, said they didn’t have a theatre program developed as much back then, so she has worked on building it up, but then COVID-19 hit, so it was a different experience.
“We did a little live stream video from my classroom, but it wasn’t the same for the kids, so I decided to go back to the community centre and do it that way.”
Performances will be taking place Nov. 25 and Dec. 9 at the Peter Lougheed Community Center.
Tickets are $45 and include a dinner with the show. They can be purchased at the high school.
Doors open at 6 p.m. with the play starting at 7 p.m.
