The Blindman Valley Broncos U18-1 team headed out to Falun Skating Rink near Pigeon Lake to take part in their first Winter Classic game on Jan. 26.
"It was the first time Central Alberta Hockey League had an outdoor league game," said Garrett Dick, head coach of the Broncos U18-1 team, which played against the Lacombe Rockets.
There was also some help from local community businesses, including the Rimbey Evergreen Co-op, who sponsored the beef on the bun, while Missing Link Internet and Power Zone Athletics sponsored the facility rental.
"It was a great experience, and of course, lots of thanks to the parents for helping out."
Although the 2-0 loss wasn't the outcome they hoped for, a good time was had by all.
Dick says this event definitely opens the door for future Blindman Valley Minor Hockey teams to apply to the league to host an outdoor classic.
