Blindman Valley Lions Club holds annual clean up south of town

The Blindman Valley Lions Club ha been cleaning this stretch of road for five years

This past Saturday, May 10, saw a flurry of activity south of Rimbey as the members of the Blindman Valley Lions Club, along with some helpful volunteers, met to pick up the trash along the busy road south of town.

Participants picked up everything from empty beverage containers, cigarette packages, numerous wrappers and pieces of plastic all the way from the Rimbey ball diamonds to the Leedale Road.

"It's sad to see how much fast food waste gets tossed into our countryside, and I can't imagine how quickly it could pile up if we just left it there." said BMV Lion member and this year's organizer Denise Ormond.

"We were very grateful to the volunteers that showed up to lend a hand with this endeavour," added Trudy Rangen, club member.

"It doesn't take so long to get it done when you get lots of help, and it definitely looks a lot better when it's cleaned up."

The worst thing they find are cigarette butts - especially when fire concerns are so risky with the dry grass - it's a dangerous thing to toss, she added.

"It would be great not to need to do this every year but that takes public cooperation not to litter. Fingers crossed the message gets heard and people take their trash home to properly dispose of it."
