At the Feb. 24 Town of Rimbey council meeting, an amendment was made to the purchase of the Blindman Youth Action Society (BYAS) Building. It is now concluded that the Town of Rimbey sold the BYAS building to the Rimbey Community Home Help Services Association on behalf of the Rimbey Food Bank for $1.

"We've sold the building to them to be run as a food bank for $1. If they leave the building or want to change the usage it reverts back to the Town of Rimbey," said Rimbey Mayor Rick Pankiw.

This has now been in discussion for over a year.

"We believe Town Council's responsibility is to help the food bank, and if we can save them some money and costs in terms of rent or lease we wanted to do that."

He said with the Rimbey Community Home Help Services Association owning the building now, it gives them some opportunity to expand or make changes to the building, etc.

Jill Moore with CBI Solar also made a presentation to council. The proposal involves installing solar panels at the Peter Lougheed Community Centre and the swimming pool.

"There's a lot of discussion that has to happen there," Pankiw said, adding that they would also have to follow a bid process on it and decide if they will even do it or not.

"First things first, we have to check to make sure that our roof could handle the weight."

The town will be providing a $500 sponsorship again for coffee, juice and donuts for the 38th Annual Alberta Dairy Congress.

The town has proposed to the Rimbey Curling Club to renew their lease agreement for another five years at the same three percent per year increase.
