The Rimbey Co-operators Agrim Centre will be a busy place come February as it transforms into an arenacross space for its competitors at the third annual Iron Horse Arenacross event.
Race days take place Feb. 7 and 8 and Feb. 14 and 15, and will see competitors come out from across the province.
There will be four rounds of amateur arenacross and a pro feature class.
The qualifying will take place during the days, from 10 a.m. to around 4:00 p.m.. At 6:30 p.m. will be the night show, which will feature the top 10 riders from during the day.
The Canadian pros will also race in the night show, as they don't race during the day.
"Everyone gets to see the big pros go head to head at it," said Les Nemeth, who started the event with Todd McBride.
That will take place from 6:30 p.m. to about 9:30 p.m.
Nemeth said they saw some really good racing last year, and that this year due to the event's success and the accommodation of Rimbey, they've been able to raise the stakes with a much bigger cash amount.
"We have an $8,000 pro payout for the pros and then also each night the pros will go on an elimination round, a dash for cash, head to head for another pot of cash each night.
Nemeth added that the calibre of the racing event will be really good this year, along with the night show.
The biggest thing is the quality of pros. This year we are fortunate enough to have the top Canadian pros.
The returning champion from last year, Blake Davies, riding for Factory Triumph International Motorsports, is confirmed to be heading back to the event this year to defend his championship.
"He won the hearts of Rimbey. He's racing against these big pro guys that are in there twenties, and last year he was only 15, so it was pretty amazing."
Factory Honda GDR Fox Race Team rider Ryder McNabb will also be in attendance. He also has local support from S5 Powersports out of Rocky Mountain House. The 2024 AMO Arenacross Champion Tyler Gibbs and Factory Triumph International Motorsports' Julien Bennick will also be there, among others.
"These are big deal guys."
Nemeth and McBride will be heading in on Feb. 4 to set up the arena for its big transformation for the event.
Title Sponsors for the event is Urban Dirt Works and Velocity Hydro Vac.
"They sponsor us the equipment and we go in there and we transform that flat dirt horse arena into a gnarly track," said Nemeth.
