Orit Shimoni will be heading to Rimbey's Beatty Heritage House on April 8 as part of the Home Routes Tour.
This will be Shimoni's first time taking part in the tour.
"This is actually a pretty epic moment for me because I've been touring full-time for almost 15 years or so, but this is the first tour where I have a car," she said with a laugh. "It's the first time after all these years that I'll be driving myself around and I'm pretty stoked about it."
Shimoni will be blending some of her older and newer material at the show, which is a blend of folk, blues and country-inspired music. She has 12 albums to her name, and has lots of stories from her years of travelling around Europe and Canada.
"I see these shows as an opportunity to share stories and to find common ground with the people there, and uplift and make laugh and make cry."
Her last album is called Winnipeg, which was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award. The album was inspired by her time stranded in Winnipeg during the pandemic.
Shimoni has been singing since she was in the crib. She taught herself how to play guitar when she was about 12, and started performing in cafes as a teenager.
"The call to do it just got louder and I got more and more serious," she said about her music journey.
As a former teacher and academic, Shimoni said she decided to take a big leap of faith and quit that job and moved to Berlin.
"I lived there for a year and just became a nomad. I gave up on having a place to live so that I could be a poor artist without having to worry about how I was going to pay my rent."
A decade passed right before her eyes, and now she has years of travelling and performing in various venues under her belt.
Coming up, Shimoni will be booking a tour in Europe in the Fall, along with recording her next album over the summer, along with a new music video.
"It's not the usual has a home base and goes off and tours sometimes. This is my full-time reality for many years already. It's my absolute passion to go share songs and stories with people."
