Rimbey Elementary School's Chili Cook-Off raises just over $4,000

The chili cook-off took place Sept. 19 and saw 19 participants.

RImbey Elementary School's Chili Cook-Off drew a crowd on Sept. 19.

The community came out to PasKaPoo Park Sept. 19 to test out some delicious chilis.

The event raised just over $4,000 to go towards the school's outdoor classroom project.

"It went really well. The park was packed," said Kelly LeBlanc, chair for the school's parent council.

This year there were 19 entries, including Rimbey Elementary School, Town of Rimbey, Evergreen Co-op Rimbey Home Centre, Grumpy Pies, Hawk Tail Brewery and many more.

The first place winner of the cook-off went to Rimbey Elementary School, second went to the Rimbey firefighters of the Rimbey Fire Department and third place went to Hawk Tail Brewery.

The Adult's Choice award this year went to the Rimbey firefighters, while the Kid's Choice award went to Rimbey Elementary School.

Once the event was over, Rimbey Elementary School students were included in the thank you card process.

"The kids are quite engaged with the chili cook-off process. The kids announced the winners this year as well, which was pretty awesome," said LeBlanc.
