Rimbey RCMP investigated a report of a 'Roma gold scam'

June 11 to June 18

During this time period, the Rimbey RCMP detachment responded to 53 calls for service. These calls included five well-being checks, five mischief, five thefts, four suspicious person/property, four 911 acts, three traffic collisions, three frauds, two trespass, two assistance to other Canadian agencies, two break and enters, two theft of other motor vehicle, two firearm act, two animal calls, two traffic violations, one impaired, one item lost/found, one possession of property obtained by crime, one fire prevention act, one assist general public, one harassing communications, one false alarm, one assault, one abandoned vehicle, and one breach of peace. 

June 11

Rimbey RCMP received a request for a well-being check at a residence. There were concerns that there were unsecured firearms in a home and the gun safe had a broken door. RCMP attended and spoke with an individual at the house who advised the guns are not kept at the house because of the broken gun safe and the firearm owner’s expired possession and acquisition license.

June 12
 

Rimbey RCMP received a report of a two vehicle collision. One vehicle went straight across the highway and was hit by a semi-truck that had the right of way. One person was transported by ambulance to the hospital. The driver of the vehicle that went across the highway was issued a ticket for proceeding when unsafe to do so.

June 13

RCMP received a report of a Roma gold scam. A vehicle was stopping motorists on the highway and trying to sell jewellry for cash saying gas money was needed. RCMP attended and made patrols but the vehicle was gone on arrival. A similar incident also occurred on June 16.

June 15


Rimbey RCMP received a report of a structure fire. RCMP attended along with the fire department and emergency medical services. Nobody was at the home and the neighbours reported the fire. The shop was burning and it was determined to be an electrical fire from an old fuse box. The fire was extinguished with minimal damage.

June 16

Rimbey RCMP received a report of a break and enter. An individual observed a vehicle parked on an approach and then caught two people taking stuff from that location back to the parked vehicle. RCMP members attended, arrested the two people, and they were both charged with trespassing.

Rimbey RCMP provides policing services to a large geographical area.

This area goes north to Township Road 450, west to North Saskatchewan River west of Highway 22, south to Township Road 410 and east to Range Road 10. This jurisdiction encompasses the communities of Rimbey, Hoadley, Springdale, Nugent, Homeglen, Bluffton, Lavesta, Willesden Green, Leedale, Summer Village of Parkland Beach, Sandy Point, Meridian Beach, Sunnyside, Paulsen's Pasture, Raymond Shores, Lynn Acres, Birch Bay and Westlake Estates.
