Hosted by the Blindman Valley Rod and Gun Club, the Rimbey Sportsman Show is set to run June 15 at the Peter Lougheed Community Centre.
The event, heading into its fifth year, will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Brad Janzen, club president, said the event is packed with variety, and is really something that is meant for the entire family to enjoy.
"We have everything from fishing and camping (gear), to jewellery, to firearms, and firearm accessories - a huge variety," he said. "It's been a really good turn-out (over the years) as well. We've always seen an increase each year with the people who are stopping in and checking things out, so it's been good that way, too."
Last year, just under 500 people attended the event, he said, adding organizers also want to see more of the younger set drop by, too.
"The idea is to take your Dad down there, and maybe he gets to pick out something nice," he added with a chuckle, noting the Father's Day connection.
"It's encouraged that kids come along and get some exposure to the outdoors, and to sportsmanlike activities, too," said Janzen.
Admission is $5 per person, $20 per family, and youth 11 and under are admitted free of charge.
Also onhand at the event will be hand-forged iron work, antique firearms and military items, loads of fishing tackle, knives of all kinds, axes, hatchets, canes, night vision items, flashlights, optics and lasers, and a selection of books on outdoor life and historical life in the west.
There will also be a huge assortment of leather goods and items repurposed from brass and shotgun hulls. New to the show will be European mounts of wild game as well.
This year's event will feature 42 vendors who have booked a total of 88 tables.
"Our volunteers from Blindman Valley Rod and Gun Club have definitely stepped up, and created a show that has become the place to be on Father's Day."
There will also be breakfast sandwiches available in the morning, and donuts, burgers and beverages available throughout the day with designated areas to sit and visit. Also, the chief firearms office staff will be available to assist with the transfer of firearms and for any questions folks may have at the event.
"We just want to make sure people come out and enjoy the show, and we want it to continue to be a good community event that we can keep hosting. It's a great event, and I think it's important for small communities like ours to have events like this."
As to the club, Janzen said although membership is capped, they are always open to applications from those interested in coming onboard.
"It's on a small shooting range just south of Rimbey, and it's been operating since about the mid 1970s," he said.
"It wasn't an official club until the late 1970s. It's on privately-owned land, and so it is capped for the number of members we can have.
"We have monthly meetings from basically May through September. And the annual general meeting is in February each year, too," he added.
"We always encourage people to inquire about memberships - there is room every year for new members, as there is some rotation in the membership. We want to be full every year."
