Rimbey's Kacey Beagle hits success at Western Canadian Softball Championships

Beagle plays in the U15A Lacombe Selects Fastball team

It was an exciting moment for Rimbey's Kacey Beagle as she hit a game-winning home run while playing in the Western Canadian Softball Championships in North Battleford, Saskatchewan over four days on the August long weekend.

"At first, I didn't believe it," said Beagle, who plays on the U15A Lacombe Selects Fastball team.

The Selects beat the Okanagan Elite in the final.

With Coach Ashley Argent, the team has travelled lots, playing 60 games to get to this point. Argent, who grew up in the Rimbey area, and has no family ties to the team, has dedicated the last three years to coaching the group, all while raising her young son.

At the championships, the girls went through the round robin losing one game, and still managed to qualify for the playoff bracket. They were then able to win all their games to get to the final.

Beagle's team led 3-1 in the final, before Okanagan went ahead 4-3 midway through the game. Lacombe tied the game at four, to set up Beagle's heroics.

She hit a home run to walk off in the bottom half of extra innings with two outs and two strikes, winning the game.

With the season over now, Beagle is going straight into hockey and is on the ice training. She hopes to play again next year with Lacombe Selects Fastball.

"We have U17A tryouts at the end of August."
