Shae Boyes of Rimbey has quite the exciting opportunity ahead of her. The 24-year-old is headed to a spot in North Macedonia to play volleyball for the Navovski Valley team.

She has finished playing her post-secondary eligibility, which was five years of competition, and is now headed to play professionally for eight months.

"It's definitely been a dream of mine to pursue and be able to get paid to do exactly what I love and what I'm super passionate about. It's what every young athlete dreams for, so it's pretty dang exciting," said Boyes about the opportunity.

"It's very exciting, she's always really been driven to excel at the sport and that's kind of the next natural step is to see how she can push herself to play," added her dad Rick Boyes.

Shae had a special season in 2023-2024, being named the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference women's volleyball player of the year and later in the year being named the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association women's player of the year.

She also graduated from the University of Augustana campus in Camrose, finishing with a distinction degree in Kinesiology.

Shae will head out the first week of September on an entry-level contract with the team before heading back home to Camrose, which is where she currently resides.

When she returns, Shae will be busy coaching volleyball full-time to kids in the high school to the beginning of the junior high range.
