Criticism of Rimbey hospital, local doctors continues

Dear Editor:

I am writing in response to the Nov. 3 letter to the editor critical of the Rimbey hospital.

I would like to say I agree completely. My husband and I have lived in the Rimbey area for over five years. We have never abused the medical system; in five years I have been to see a doctor in Rimbey three times, including the last visit to the Rimbey hospital.

Recently I had a lot of pain in my leg and it got so bad I could not walk without assistance. My husband was very worried and phoned the emergency, and was told to phone the emergency hotline. When he phoned and told them about the pain I was in, the nurse said to take me into the closest hospital, being Rimbey. She faxed all the pertinent information and we arrived at the hospital around 10 p.m.

Upon arrival, we were told the doctor would not see me and if I wanted to go to the clinic during working hours the next day, this would be the only way I could see a doctor. We were in shock. We are taxpayers as well, and when the hospital was undergoing renovations, I donated more than once.

My husband took me to Lacombe for help where we were treated with the care we should have been in Rimbey.

As my husband has said to me since, if he becomes very ill and needs medical attention, do not take him to the Rimbey Hospital. He would rather go to the Rimbey Veterinary Clinic where we know they care about their patients.

The Wilson family,

Rimbey
