Hockeyville challenge draws community together

Dear Editor:

As a citizen of the Bentley community, I would like to thank the organizers of the celebrations in our bid to be named “Kraft Hockeyville 2011.”

I will not mention names because I believe they did not spend countless personal hours for the glory. They had the belief that we, as a community, could do it and convinced the rest of us to get on the bandwagon, join in and show our community pride. Our citizens know who you are and we thank you for all of your “behind the scenes” efforts. You have truly drawn our town together – a special talent while working with so many different personalities.

Very seldom does a small community have a chance to be positively showcased by CBC. We are so proud of the Bentley Generals, our new Bentley Hockey Academy, our youngest hockey players and to our citizens for being there supporting the players. Look around at the decorated businesses, all the hockey jerseys worn by our citizens, the past history told in the hockey jerseys and jackets at the arena, the activities planned at the school, the decorations the children have come up with and of course, the teachers who have given of their time to teach the children what this competition is all about — we are a community unified for a reason.

Let’s keep this momentum going and stay united for what is best for the community – we have done it before, we have done it once again and I know we will continue to do so in the future. I am truly proud to call you my neighbours, my friends, my family and my community. In my mind, we, as the town of Bentley, are truly the winners.

When we win this competition – that will be the icing on the cake.
