Letter writer urges readers to show abandoned cats some compassion

Dear Editor; I felt compelled to write in the hopes that spay and neutering of dog and cats can help keep down the overpopulation of the above. Every spring the same old things are being said and done. Cat traps, town folks blaming the caring souls that can’t bare to see the beat up and starving strays and feed a couple in their area.

Dear Editor;

I felt compelled to write in the hopes that spay and neutering of dog and cats can help keep down the overpopulation of the above.

Every spring the same old things are being said and done. Cat traps, town folks blaming the caring souls that can’t bare to see the beat up and starving strays and feed a couple in their area.

We also have the homeowners with gardens who are coming up with ways to rid the felines, whether stray or owned. They use poison or traps - catching and releasing them in fields so owners have no way to ever find their family member. Many cats have been found dead and in many cases, the death was cruel.

Who thinks the cats choose the way of life that makes many hate the very word ‘cat’?

Feral cats are not going away, decade after decade has shown us that. Killing the pesty feline will only show that you took an easy and useless way to deal with the problem not to mention this is neither nice nor smart. Please, get involved! Spay or neutering a cat. Maybe there should be a law with very significant fines. I think so. It will not clean up the feral problem overnight but at least it’s a start. They need to be fixed. And also, please remember that people made the problem not the animals.
