Submitter has high praise for local volunteer

Dear Editor,

After attending the recent volunteer supper at the Community Centre, I felt I had been very remiss in not entering Doreen Glanfield’s name to the Distinguished Volunteer list.

In June of 2008, she won the Senior Service Award for all of Alberta, as well as being honoured with a big supper and the presentation of an award at the Alberta Government house in Edmonton. My husband and I were there so we know this was a real honour for her.

We at the Rimbey Drop-In Centre realize how much she has done for us. She is truly a leader and without her help and hard work, we would never have had our Drop-In Centre.

With Alberta 55+, we travel to approximately 40 different drop-in centres and we are the envy of them all.

Being that approximately one-third of our population is seniors and with her leadership, we keep a large amount of them very happy. The Drop-In Centre is truly a haven for seniors. Busy seniors keep them out of the hospital. Under her leadership we have come from a small group to a very large group.

We wish to give Doreen the congratulations that she truly deserves.
