A Bluffton letter writer wonders who and why anyone would deprive four children of their best friend by shooting and killing Thunder

Dear Editor;

Our family has had a very long tough year. We have been through 12 surgeries with two of our children, two of our children have heart problems, and our youngest has a feeding tube.

On top of all of this we would like to thank, insert sarcasm here, the big tough man who shot and killed our family pet. A black lab named Thunder. They say that a dog is man’s best friend but this dog was the best friend to four children. These kids loved this dog with all their hearts but now thanks to the compassion of some trigger-happy gunman, we have had to crush the hearts of four kids. These kids spent five days looking for and hoping their best friend would come home. Why? Because not only was he shot, but he was just left to rot. This tells us that it was not an accident because he had tags on his collar. I hope you, whoever you are, feel like a big tough man behind your gun because it takes a big tough man to cold-bloodedly kill the best friend of not one, but four children.
