Submitter suggests plastic bag-free community

Dear Editor,

I would like to suggest the Rimbey Review get behind their initiative and take note of area stores that have started a policy to promote more green initiatives in Rimbey and acknowledge those efforts.

There are also small things that can be done by individuals to make this a greener town. The people of Rimbey spent a lot of energy making this the Pinkest Town in the West, so maybe some energy will be spent on making it the Greenest Town in the West as well.

Perhaps a campaign could be started to make Rimbey the first town to be completely plastic bag-free.

In fact, I would like to commend Don Waselenko, manager of The Bargain Shop for the bold move of starting to charge shoppers for plastic bags and I challenge every store in Rimbey to follow suit.

The environmental harm caused by plastic bags is well documented and this is one area every individual can do something about. The only way to affect change is to start charging shoppers for using plastic bags as giving them credit for not using them isn’t working.

Let’s make Rimbey the first town that is completely plastic bag free.
