Sylvan Lake fans pile on the Generals 1

Dear Editor:

It was obvious the author of the article “Generals have a lot to be proud of” seems to be a fan of the team themselves. Bias crept into the April 26 article.

The Bentley Generals had a good season but fell short more times than not the past few seasons when it counted. Normally a person forgets who comes in second but I looked it up to remind myself. There was a statement about Ron MacLean calling the Generals a dynasty. Who loses the big game more than wins and is a dynasty? That is one of the most ridiculous comments I have ever heard. If they won all  attempts, then maybe.

In the Red Deer Advocate months ago a writer predicted that the Generals would lose in the Allan Cup. Local people laughed and scoffed but the results speak for themselves. The prediction was 100 per cent true. The team needs changes. They maybe saw something that the regular fan doesn’t.

There are a lot of Bentley/Rimbey peewee teams that can be proud of their accomplishments also. They just don’t get the press coverage. In fact their records may be better than the Generals.

I hope to read balanced stories in the future and with a devastating loss, don’t make it seem like they won the Allan Cup and that everything is perfect in General country.

To improve change is needed.

Becky Strand,

Sylvan Lake
