The prime minister - Triple Crown winner as Consummate Partisan Politician

Dear Editor,

The greatest accomplishment of a thoroughbred horse is winning the Triple Crown for coming first in three races of differing lengths, the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes.

Stephen Harper's performance recently in attacking Michael Ignatieff at the G8 international summit earns him a Triple Crown, that of Consummate Partisan Politician.

The first crown was won by interpreting Election Canada rules in a manner that would add more than a million to local Conservative Associations' coffers through spending an overage of central party funds in their name.

The second through having Members' of Parliament agree to their publicly funded means of communicating with their constituents used as partisan attack mechanisms for his party. The most recent being pamphlets from 48 of his members sent into Bloc-held constituencies suggesting their party supported pedophiles over children.

Why Harper's attack on Ignatieff must be considered the defining action in earning the Triple Crown as a Consummate Partisan Politician is that while the first two showed how far politicians would go, the audience was limited to Canadians. His attack speech at the G8 Summit was witnessed by the world.

Yours truly,

Joe Hueglin,

Niagara Falls, Ont.
