Why not hold a Rimbey lottery?

Dear Editor:

Recent discussions about Town of Rimbey finances as reported in the Rimbey Review, and a lot of good work by our Lions Club, has spurred me to make a suggestion that I hope my neighbours will discuss and consider.

The Lions did a great job of fundraising for the pool by running a lottery. They raised tons of money and handed out great prizes.

Why don’t we set up a committee to do it all the time? Rimoka and the hospital are always short of cash too so why not split the money? Maybe this way we can keep our ambulance service and generate enough cash flow to keep the town ticking — while it waits for those slow payments from the province.

I remember when I was a kid, the City of Montreal paid for the deficit from Expo 67 with what was the first legal Canadian lottery. We’re too small to risk a house lottery like the cities; straight cash draws just like the Lions did would be the simplest.

Come on. I need another chance. I wanted the pool money badly and didn’t get it.
