Wife of MS patients implores government to allow for spousal care

Why is it that if you have a handicapped spouse you cannot care for them at home and get an allowance?

Dear Editor;

Why is it that if you have a handicapped spouse you cannot care for them at home and get an allowance?

Instead, they say, “Put him in a nursing home”. Someone else could be paid to care for them, but not the spouse. That is discrimination.

A nursing home room costs how much more? Preserve dignity; don’t discriminate against families. Don’t contribute to the break-up of families. Be fair.

The government thinks spouses would be dishonest and abuse the system, which is both prejudice and discrimination.

With our health care system in a crisis with the boomers now aging, see the right choice – family caring for family with an allowance so they can live! Give spouses the support they deserve and a choice other than a nursing home.

Handicapped persons are people too.

Was it the immunization shots or pollution that caused the Multiple Sclerosis in my 53 year-old husband who is not a senior?

Sincerely,

Mabel Kreil
