Mathew Jaycox has sat on Rimbey town council for four years and is looking forward to the privilege of serving the town for another term.

“I really don’t have political aspirations,” he said. “I simply want to give back to Rimbey and use what I’ve learned to serve the town even better.”

Jaycox, who has lived in Rimbey since 2004 is a customer solutions design specialist for Telus Business Systems. He has worked in the communications industry since 1979.

The incumbent councillor believes the time he has spent on council has given him a greater understanding of how to collaboratively deal with all levels of government for the betterment of the community which he serves.

“I believe the municipal government is the most powerful form of government in Canada. The decision made today affect the citizens of tomorrow.”

He sees conferences as great opportunities for networking and gaining useful information.

“Conferences give us an opportunity to put forward our concerns and also to learn about grants that are available,” he said.

During his time on council, Jaycox has served on the board of the Rimoka Housing Foundation and is privileged to be on the building committee for the new lodge.

“It’s exciting to see it coming to fruition,” he said. He noted the process to bring the lodge to Rimbey has been a long one and past councils as well as the council of today all played a role in making it happen.

He is also pleased that the Central Alberta Action Committee distributing Telus funds to organizations contributed $15,000 in funds and products to Rimbey Big Brothers, Big Sisters, Rimbey Library and Rimbey Kinsmen Club. As a member of that committee, he was part of the decision-making process determining where the funds should go.

Jaycox serves as council representative for the Beatty House Historical Society and served three years on Central Alberta Economic Partnership and two years on West Central Planning Commission.

An avid hunter and fisherman, Jaycox is married to Ruth Ann and the couple have two sons, a daughter-in-law and three grandsons.
