Rimbey Mayor Rick Pankiw will remain in office for another four years, but there will be a political race for a spot on council.

A total of nine names were submitted on Nomination Day Monday for the four council positions.

All incumbent town councillors will seek re-election. Paul Payson, Brian Godlonton, Mathew Jaycox and Jack Webb are all hoping to gain a spot on council. Also vying for a position are Bill Coulthard, Bernie Bast, Gayle Rondeel and Lana Curle.

Mayor Pankiw said he is honoured to have the opportunity to serve as mayor for another four years.

“I will continue to work in the best interest of Rimbey taxpayers,’ he said. “I plan to go door to door to talk to the people of Rimbey to discuss any issues or concerns they may have.”

Pankiw said the present council should be commended for following the democratic process.

“We had good debates and discussions, but whether the motion was defeated or passed, they always followed the democratic process.”

A public forum will be held at the Peter Lougheed Community Centre on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. sponsored by the Rimbey Library. During the forum each candidate will give their opening and closing statements and an open mike session will be held during which time the audience will have the opportunity to ask questions.
