Medicine Lodge Ski Hill celebrates 60th anniversary

Medicine Lodge Ski Hill, located just 15 km west of Bentley, Alta., celebrated its’ 60th anniversary this winter.

Volunteer at the ski hill for 18 years, Michael Roseboom, says that unfortunately this year a lack of snow only allowed the family friendly hill to open for one weekend. The hill decided to have their only open weekend so far this winter take place for the 60th anniversary.

Roseboom says they decided to just open it, “for people to enjoy this year.”

He says unfortunately the past few seasons have been limited in the open weekends due to low snow and COVID-19 concerns and restrictions. Compared to the busy ski season full of events including night skiing 10 years ago, Roseboom says that the conditions are a hit to the volunteer run facility.

He states that volunteers and donations to the hill are needed to keep it running and affordable for families in the coming years.

“At least we were able to open for one weekend,” says Roseboom.
