A driver in Rimbey was charged after hitting a fire hydrant and driving off with it still under their car on June 1.
According to the Rimbey RCMP report from May 28 to June 4, The Town of Rimbey retrieved the fire hydrant from under the vehicle and Rimbey RCMP charged the vehicle driver.
This was one of 47 calls during that time period, which included 10 traffic violations; five wellbeing checks; four traffic collisions; three thefts; three assistance to Canadian Provincial/Territorial agency; two suspicious person/vehicle; two harassing communications; two drive while disqualified; two assist general public; two animal calls; two item lost/found; one being unlawfully at large; one mental health act; one firearms act; one other Provincial/Territorial Statute; one take motor vehicle without consent; one missing person; one sexual assault; one offender management; one crime prevention; and one abandoned vehicle.
One June 2, police also responded to wellbeing check about a vehicle that had been idling for over two hours with someone inside. When police arrived on the scene, there was no one inside the vehicle. Police contacted the owner of the vehicle and were informed that it was running because a laptop was being charged and the power was turned off in the house.
Other calls included:
May 28: report of loud bangs that sounded like gunshots. Rimbey RCMP made patrols as well as neighbourhood inquiries and found the sounds were fireworks.
May 29: report of a semitruck stolen from a company lot. An individual stole the keys from a residence, then proceeded to steal the semitruck. This matter is still under investigation.
June 3: request for assistance to attend and serve papers as the individual was concerned for their safety attending alone. Rimbey RCMP members attended the residence to ensure the safety of the individual serving the document. Rimbey RCMP arrested both individuals at the residence for outstanding warrants.
