The following are some of the items discussed during Wolf Creek Public School's board of trustees regular meeting on Dec. 19.
New science curriculum
The board received a report about Education Services Coordinator Kaylene Reddekopp's ongoing leadership in ensuring teachers are well equipped to deliver the new Science curriculum for Grades 4 to 6 curriculum effectively.
Sessions are being held that focus on a single theme from the curriculum. The morning sessions explore the curriculum's structure and content, while the afternoon sessions are dedicated to finding, developing, and organizing resources.
To support teachers, Google Classrooms have been created for each grade level, allowing resources and ideas to be shared across the division.
The province launched its new science curriculum for Grades 4 to 6 in all elementary classrooms in Sept. 2024.
Average class sizes
The board received a report on class size averages across the Division.
The data provides an overview of current class sizes and will be made available on the division’s website for stakeholders to review to ensure transparency and ongoing communication and accountability regarding classroom environments.
WCPS fall budget
The board received the updated fall budget for the 2024/2025 school year.
The revised budget reflects actual enrollment numbers and incorporates adjustments for key areas such as insurance, utilities, emergent issues, and changes required by Alberta Education in order to align with current projections and address material changes for the school year.
