This year the Royal Canadian Legion is celebrating the Centennial of the POPPY and the remembrance it brings every year at this time. The community again is stepping up in support of the local branch by displaying wreaths and crosses in their places of business during the two weeks prior to November 11th.
Who would have thought that COVID would still be with us today, 20 months from when it started here. Now think of those who were around at the begining of World War I and World War II. Did anyone ever think those wars would last as long as they did? They all gave some and some gave all.
Rimbey Legion Branch No. 36 is again having to cancel the large indoor service normally held at the Peter Lougheed Community Centre on November 11th but will host an outdoor Remembrance Day Service, weather permitting, at the Rimbey Legion on 50th street starting at 10:45. All are welcome to watch. We just ask you to wear a mask and self distance to protect yourselves and your loved ones.
The service will be shortened and only a small number of wreaths will be laid at the Cenotaph with one of those being laid by a Legion Member for all the families who would normally do so in memory of a Veteran.
The street will be closed off from 9 am until noon for all to gather safely and enjoy the service. The public may come after the service and place their poppies on the wreaths at the cenotaph in an Act of Remembrance.
