Residents of Rimbey and area are invited to view the 30th annual Cutter Parade on Sunday, Jan. 28 at 11:30 a.m.

The Cutter Parade will take place on the east side of the VJV Rimbey Auction Mart parking lot. The event will see a number of equine demonstrations.

The equestrian parade is organized by the Rimbey Sleigh, Wagon and Saddle Club in conjunction with the Rimbey Ag Society’s annual Snow Dayz held at the Co-Operators Agrim Centre.

“The event sees the parade itself with multiple horses - everything from minis to Clydesdales and this year we even have a few teams of mules coming out,” said Doug Rogers with the Rimbey Sleigh, Wagon and Saddle Club. “We will do the parade route a few times each then after we have access to a nearby farmer’s field where we will do a few more demonstrations and about an hour sleigh ride.”

Following the parade the community is invited to enter the Agrim Centre to enjoy a number of family friendly activities including a ‘Meet the Breeds’ show around 2:30 p.m.

Local equine enthusiasts will give the audience a run through with each of their horses and do basic pulling tasks to showcase what they are capable of.

In addition to the arena events, the lower floor of the Agrim Centre will be home to a winter farmer’s market with the upper floor seeing a western decor and tack sale.

The Sleigh, Wagon and Saddle Club will also be hosting a live and silent auction on the first floor. Proceeds from this year’s live auction item will be donated to the Rimbey Food Bank. Funds raised through the silent auction will go towards one lucky community group who has yet to be decided.

“Every year we reach out to the community and ask for letters from organizations looking for supporting funds,” explained Rogers. ” During our first meeting in February our board will go through all the letters and decide where the proceeds from the silent auction will go.”

Community groups have up until Jan. 20 to submit their letter to the Sleigh, Wagon and Saddle Club.

In addition to the arena events which take place from 12-4:30 p.m. attendees of the Ag Society’s Snow Dayz can also play the role of judge in the annual Chili Cook-Off competition. Those who wish to try the chili can purchase a ticket which allows samples of each batch. Using their ticket, participants can then place a vote for their favourite batch.

If you wish to enter a batch of chili contact the Rimbey Ag Society directly.

Rogers wishes to thank the community for their continued involvement with the event.

“We’ve had tremendous support - past and present - from the community and local businesses we really appreciate everyone’s support,” said Rogers. “Thank you so much to everyone who has been involved in any capacity over the years.”
