It was a busy but quiet summer for the Town of Rimbey this year.

A big project that came to its conclusion was the 51 Street infrastructure.

“That was two years in the works. We started it last summer. That is finished and looks absolutely gorgeous,” said Mayor Rick Pankiw.

They also did some paving from their water breaks and lots of clean up throughout the town, including painting all of their crosswalks.

“It was a very good, quiet summer,” he said.

They also sold the naming rights recently to their aquatic centre to Baytex Energy for a five-year contract.

“There’s nice new signage up.”

Pankiw said the Town was a busy place this summer, with a good Rockin’ Rimbey event, Central Alberta Raceways, along with the Rimbey Co-operators Agrim Centre all having a successful summer.

He said the Town will continue road construction next Spring and will meet with some engineers who have already done some preliminary scopes.

“It will be what we put on our capital agenda this Fall. Council will have to make a decision on what we have to spend.”

He said after spending $4.5 million on 51 Street, they want to be diligent in their spending not knowing what the government MSI will be.

“Hopefully it will be announced this month at the ABmunis Convention, and we will have an idea where we sit for the next number of years.”
