Advisory committee bylaw proposed

Town council, at its Oct. 23 meeting, ironed out a few wrinkles in a draft bylaw proposed by the CAO regarding the formation of an advisory

Town council, at its Oct. 23 meeting, ironed out a few wrinkles in a draft bylaw proposed by the CAO regarding the formation of an advisory committee whose purpose would be to look at ways to improve Rimbey’s downtown core.

Such an advisory committee is the initial step in a proposed strategy which CAO Lucien Cloutier brought to council earlier.

Once committee guidelines are established, the group would work within these guidelines to provide advice and recommendations to council on activities and programs designed to promote and enhance the downtown.

While council seemed to like the proposal, overall, a few changes will be implemented before it is given third reading.

“I don’t like the idea that it says downtown,” said Mayor Rick Pankiw, adding that the bylaw should be more encompassing of the entire town.

Council also agreed to delete the portion of the bylaw which stated committee members be paid an honorarium.

Cloutier will make the proposed changes and bring the revised bylaw back to council.

Mayor Rick Pankiw said Lucien Cloutier was asked to develop the downtown sustainability strategy when he was hired as CAO.

“It is a plan to help Rimbey move forward,” he said.
