Alberta RCMP are warning drivers ahead of the seasonal check-stop launch.

Members of all Alberta police forces, including the Alberta RCMP, will be launching the seasonal check-stop program in early December, noting that placement and timing of the stops will be strategic.

Anyone witnessing potential impaired driving is asked to call 911 from a hands-free device.

“Police want to reduce impaired driving and make the roads safe for you to use during this festive season,” notes an RCMP release.

According to the release, alcohol- and drug-related collisions are 100 per cent preventable, and while going out to have a good time is encouraged, so is planning a safe way home.

The release continues that on average, four fatalities occur each day directly related to drugs or alcohol for a total of around 1,500 per year, out of around 2,550 total collisions.
