Alleged marijuana impairment while driving near Rimbey

Rimbey RCMP make drug impaired driving arrest

One man has had his license suspended and his vehicle seized after allegedly driving while impaired by marijuana near Rimbey.

According to Cst. Carman Dutz, Rimbey RCMP detachment, “On June 13, the Rimbey RCMP arrested a 49-year-old male following an investigation into an erratic driving complaint. A drug recognition expert was utilized and charges are pending.

“At 3:36 p.m., the RCMP received reports of an erratic driver traveling north on Highway 20 towards Rimbey.

“The vehicle was located by the Rimbey RCMP and a traffic stop initiated. The driver was arrested for possession of marijuana, and following a test conducted by a drug recognition expert, the male was re-arrested for impaired driving by drug.

“Charges are pending against the male under the Criminal Code and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. The male’s driver’s license has been suspended for 90 days and his vehicle seized as per the provisions of the Alberta Administrative License Suspension Program.”
