Another successful year for Rockin’ Rimbey

It was a fun-filled weekend on Aug. 17-20 for Rockin’ Rimbey, with lots of people coming out to have a good time.

Laverne Oberhammer, along with his wife Michelle, who are both members of the Rimbey Lions Club and chairpersons of Rockin’ Rimbey, said it went absolutely awesome.

“All of the volunteer organizations were all on board. Everything went super,” said Laverne.

PasKaPoo Park had a great turnout for the Parkin’ In The Park Show N’ Shine, and the Rockin’ Rimbey Cruz saw lots of people line up on the streets to watch as people displayed their cars.

The Rimbey Lions Club’s Soda Pop Social was another success this year too.

“It sells out every year. It went really good,” said Laverne.

Unfortunately due to bad weather on the Friday, the drive-in numbers were down, but they climbed right back up the next day for the original Smokey and the Bandit movie on the back of the Rimbey Co-operators Agrim Centre.

“We had some people show up at the drive-in in some nice older convertibles and older vehicles. It was awesome. It was just back in the day, it was great.”

The movies each day were shown on a 30 ft by 60 ft screen.

“We’re very comfortable saying Rimbey’s biggest screen ever seen,” said Laverne, adding that next year they will have room for many more vehicles to park.

He and Michelle on behalf of the Rimbey Lions Club would like to extend a huge heartfelt thank you to all of the sponsors, businesses, community organizations and all of the volunteers that took part this year.
