ATCO celebration coming

ATCO Gas has been heating homes and warming communities in Alberta for 100 years

ATCO Gas has been heating homes and warming communities in Alberta for 100 years and to recognize the big event, they plan to do lots of celebrating.

Keith Carter, vice-president of operations for the Edmonton region, said a party is planned in Rimbey June 6 at the community centre with lots of activities on the agenda.

The main attraction of the evening is to be a live one-act vaudeville-style variety show, He’s Got the Pipes, formed by professional actors.

“It is 45 minutes long and is a good way to celebrate and provide the history (of the company) in an interesting way,” he said.

As well as the free live theatre, there will be a community barbecue, face painting and tattoos for the children and ATCO Blue Flame Kitchen prizes.

Local ATCO representatives Bernie Gaboury and Sheila Gagnon will be on hand during the evening activities that will run from 4:30 to 7 p.m.

Albertans in the ATCO Gas service area have an opportunity to win five Heat Your Home for a year Prizes and secondary prizes including barbecues and patio heaters. Participants can enter online at www.atcogas.com, or at each of the 100 Days of Summer Tour events.

ATCO’s history began on July 17, 1912 when a lighting ceremony signaled the completion of a 270-kilometre natural gas pipeline and the arrival of natural gas to Calgary.

That same year ATCO Gas provided natural gas to customers in southern Alberta in eight communities along the Bow Island to Calgary pipeline.

Today, ATCO Gas is an Alberta owned company focusing on natural gas distribution to one million customers in more than 300 communities across the province.
