Beatty Heritage House Society to host Earth Day documentary screening

On April 22 the Beatty Heritage House Society invites the community to join them for a special film presentation as part of their local Earth Day initiative.

The local group has been raising awareness around Earth Day for ten years now and the organization believes this year’s theme, ‘Planet vs. Plastic’ is particularly pertinent.

The group will be showing, ‘The Story of Plastic’ which is described as ‘a searing expose, uncovering the ugly truth behind plastic pollution and the tremendous need to address the problem.’

“It details the horrific impacts plastics have had on the world,” said Beatty Heritage House Society member, Florence Stemo.

The feature length film details a cohesive timeline of how the world came to experience what the makers call ‘the current global plastic pollution crisis’ and how the oil and gas industry has directed the narrative around it.

Additionally, the film details the process of the extraction of fossil fuels and plastic disposal and the global resistance fighting back.

The Beatty Heritage House Society’s screening of ‘The Story of Plastic’ will take place at the Rimbey Public Library. Two viewings will take place at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

On an international level, Earth Day takes place annually on April 22, with the first globally recognized event taking place in 1970.

According to official Earth Day website, www.earthday.org - the day aims to mobilize individuals to ‘protect the planet’.

“Join us to honor and celebrate our remarkable planet on this extraordinary day Earth Day is a reminder of the importance of environmental conservation and sustainability, encouraging us to come together and take action for a healthier planet and brighter future.” said Earthday.org organizers.
