Bentley town council has shortlisted three possible signs for the Highway 12 roundabout and they are now looking for input from residents on the new signage.

A roundabout was determined to be the best solution for the intersection following a 2019 engineering assessment and feasibility study but some residents voiced concerns about the rural location and speed of traffic on the road.

“Roundabouts are a cost-effective and safe alternative to stop signs or traffic lights. A properly designed roundabout can reduce crashes by 40 to 60 per cent. They also allow a free flow of traffic, which eases congestion and ensures quicker travel times,” said Wayne Wood, communications advisor with Alberta Transportation.

Alberta Transportation said there will be slight inconveniences to traffic in that area during construction but through a combination of construction staging and an on-site detour will be used to accommodate traffic and reduce potential delays during construction.
