The Blindman Valley Lions Club members endured everything from beautiful warm sunshine to a full blown white out blizzard during their food drive over the weekend.

The club took over the Evergreen Co-op on Dec. 10 and Dec. 11 to collect donations for the Rimbey Food Bank.

Totals are still being finalized but first counts total over $600 in cash donations and almost a literal ton of food.

“The amazing generosity of this community resulted in just shy of half a ton of supplies, 899.70 pounds for the Food Bank as well as $615 in cash. There is no doubt at all the impact that this support will make to those in need,” Trudy Rangen with the Blindman Valley Lions.

“It was an eye opening conversation with Rose, Rimbey’s Food Bank manager, who explained the screening process required to qualify for assistance and how they have seen a 30 per cent increase that continues to go up each month. So, when the Evergreen Co-Op approached the Blindman Valley Lions club to do a food drive for the Rimbey Food Bank they printed off this “wish list” and handed them out to shoppers at the store,” said Rangen.

The “wish lists” included items that are less often donated including body wash, shampoo and dish soap, coffee, tea, jam and cookies.

There was a draw for a turkey donated by club members, the winner has been called and the club is waiting to hear back from her.
