The boiler used to heat the water at the Rimbey Aquatic Centre is not working properly and town council will need to spend some dollars to replace it.

The boiler, which was put in when the pool was built six-years ago uses copper tubing. After it heats the water to the required temperature it automatically shuts off, meaning it needs to be re-started. As it ages it is getting more difficult to re-start.

“Chlorine and copper don’t work very well,” Cindy Bowie, community services director told council, Tuesday. “It’s hard to keep running.”

At its Tuesday meeting council agreed to spend approximately $53,000 to replace the aging boiler.

“It has to be done. We have no choice,” said Mayor Rick Pankiw.

Bowie said the boiler needed to be replaced before swimming lessons started.”

Council unanimously agreed to take the money out of unrestricted reserves to pay for the new stainless steel boiler.

The new boiler should be installed soon.
