Breton collision claims two Drayton Valley lives

A collision between a sports utility vehicle (SUV) and a commercial tractor-trailer tanker unit has claimed the lives of two young males from Drayton Valley.

A collision between a sports utility vehicle (SUV) and a commercial tractor-trailer tanker unit has claimed the lives of two young males from Drayton Valley.

The collision, which occurred at the intersection of Highway 20 and secondary Highway 616. On Nov. 29, at approximately 11:40 am, resulted in the deaths of driver 18 year-old Jordan McGrath and 19 year-old passenger Ethan Thebeau, but of Drayton Valley.

According to the Breton Detachment of the RCMP, the tractor-trailer was southbound traveling through Breton on Highway 20 when the eastbound SUV proceeded through a stop sign at the intersection and collided with the side of the tractor-trailer.

The SUV became lodged under the trailer and was dragged for approximately 100 metres before becoming dislodged and came to rest on the west side of the highway. As a result of the collision, the tractor-trailer jack-knifed and came to rest further down the highway in the west ditch.

While police are continuing their investigation, no charges are anticipated.
