Calgary condo fire leaves former Rimbey couple temporarily homeless

Staff

A massive mid-day condominium fire in Calgary’s southwest area resulted in the evacuation of hundreds of residents, including Nathan Waselenko and his girlfriend Ashley, formerly of Rimbey.

The fire, which destroyed large sections of the lower two floors and all of the top floor in the four-level unit, was believed to have started from a carelessly discarded cigarette butt left in a planter in the 159-unit building located on Millrise Dr.

The Rimbey couple joined some 170 other residents who had been booked into a city-operated emergency rescue centre where they were provided with food, clothing, medicine and shelter.

A fund has been established at the Rimbey branch of the ATB in which the public can make donations to the couple. The account is in the name: Nathan Waselenko Fund. For more information, the public is invited to call the ATB at (403) 843-2291.
