It was another stellar season for Central Alberta Raceways (CAR), and plans are already in the works for next year’s events.
“I think it was another successful year,” said CAR president Roy Keessar. “Probably the biggest crowd was when the mud bogs had their special event, Mega Trucks. It was a new event they had this year.”
Keessar said Duel In the Dirt, held on the oval, was another successful event, with racers coming from across western Canada to attend.
“Everybody has already started scheduling for next season,” he said. “The mud bogs will be bringing Mega Trucks back again and it will likely be even larger next year. The oval will host Duel In The Dirt again. The main events on the drag strip were No Prep and Miles of Mayhem, which are already booked again for next year.”
The track put up new lights around the oval this year, which turned out to be a large undertaking since the electricity within the facility needed to be upgraded before the lights could go in. There’s also a new sound system being installed, and Keessar said attendees should find this a big improvement for the oval and drag strip operations.
CAR held their wind-up banquet on Saturday, Oct. 15, and elected a new board. Racing will start up again in May 2023.
“We will be pushing online ticket sales next season,” said Keessar, adding it’s a lot easier, attendees can get in faster and it’s a more efficient way for the track to know how many people are coming through the gates.
The increased cost of fuel and the lack of parts has been tough on the racers this past season, Keessar commented.
“Who knows what commodity prices will be like next year and hopefully supplies will be more readily available as well.”
Keessar said the track owes a thank you to the town of Rimbey, its residents, all of the volunteers, the board and the Kinsmen Club for another successful year.
