A 14-year-old Rimbey teen who took a 1997 Chevy Lumina on a joy ride Thursday afternoon ended up being extracted from the vehicle with the Jaws of Life.

Sgt. Mark Groves said RCMP responded to a complaint around 1 p.m. about a driver who seemed to be impaired, driving in the rural area between Gull Lake and Rimbey.

The driver wasn’t located but was later reported leaving Rimbey.

“By the time RCMP got to the area where the suspect vehicle was, it had left the roadway and rolled several times,” said Groves.

Emergency crews and firefighters were on the scene and the young man was transported to Rimbey hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.

“He was not wearing a seat belt and drugs and alcohol may have been a factor,” said Groves, adding charges are pending.

The vehicle had not been reported stolen.
