And so this is Christmas.

Tables laden with a feast fit for a king, a background of laughter and friendly banter, music, many hands ready to help, guests receiving gifts, and above all, a shared spirit of camaraderie and friendship.

It truly does portray the real meaning of Christmas.

The community Christmas dinner in Rimbey promises all this and more.

This year, the event is to be held at the Rimbey Drop In at 2 p.m. on Christmas Day, said Gayle Rondeel who is organizing the event along with Dave Davies.

As well as a delicious meal there will be games and music and a chance to socialize for everyone.

“It promises to be a fun event and so many people always step forward to help out,” said Rondeel, adding that volunteers can come anytime after 10 a.m.

She noted that Christmas miracles do happen at the dinner, recalling a time when the heat under the turkeys didn’t get turned on, and yet somehow the turkeys got cooked and another time when there weren’t enough carrots and then someone showed up with just the right amount.

Rondeel encourages anyone including families who wants to take part in a community Christmas to come. She said everyone should bring tupperware containers to take home extra food. People who need to use the handivan to attend the event should phone the hospital in advance. Shut ins who would like a meal delivered should contact Dave or Gayle.

“We don’t want anyone to be alone at Christmas unless it’s their choice,” she said.

Rondeel said donations of food and cash are always welcomed.

A meeting will be held at James Grill and Bar on Dec. 19 to finalize plans for the event.
