COPS help Mounties keep peace at Gull Lake

.

In this reporting period Rimbey RCMP responded to 56 calls for service. Highlights include a robbery, break and enters, theft, impaired drivers, vandalism and drug use.

Police patrolling the Gull Lake area in unmarked “ghost cars” over the long weekend surprised a few unsuspecting citizens. One adult male was arrested for an outstanding warrant from the Calgary Police Service. All in all, the lake community was very busy but most people were behaving themselves and just having lots of family fun.

The Gull Lake North Citizens on Patrol (COP) were also out and about in full force and assisted police by being their “eyes and ears” when they were not present in the community. These pro-active volunteers really go out of their way to help make our community a safer place to live. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer for the COP please contact the Rimbey detachment for more information.

Police arrest thief and drug users

Police were busy at Leedale again where they arrested 26-year-old Richard Vollrath who was ordered by the court to not be in the Rimbey area due to previous run-ins with the law. He was also charged with a theft of liquor from a local merchant and for breaching his court orders. He was located in a residence where police also arrested an adult man and woman for illegal drugs. Both were found to be high on methamphetamine and taken to the hospital for medical attention and were charged with possession of hash oil.

Drunk driver arrested

Another impaired driver was arrested in Rimbey on July 2. At approximately 1:45 a.m. officers patrolling Highway 20 were passed by a Ford pickup truck that partially went into the ditch when it drove by the police car. Rimbey Mounties stopped the truck and found the driver to be intoxicated. The 27-year-old man from Fort Macleod was charged and his vehicle was subsequently towed from the roadway.

More oilfield vandalism

Oilfield theft is not uncommon but this week someone was out in the Rimbey area vandalizing oilfield sites by throwing rocks through the windows of the buildings on site. These senseless acts are being investigated and leads followed up.

Police help families in need

RCMP officers searched for a missing teenager this week on two occasions. In these cases, Children Services assisted police in lending a helping hand to the family in need.

Thieves arrested after attempted robbery

On July 6 at approximately 5 p.m., a man entered a drug store in Rimbey attempting to rob them of narcotics. The man fled the store without obtaining any drugs. Police quickly responded to the scene and searched the area. Rimbey Mounties subsequently determined that this culprit was also responsible for similar incidents in Bentley and Blackfalds.

The investigation in Rimbey led officers to a residence in Red Deer where police arrested two individuals responsible for the crime. A third adult male, who actually entered the stores, was arrested attempting to flee Red Deer in a vehicle on Highway 2. All three are in custody with charges pending the outcome of the investigation at this time. Victim Services from Rimbey was also involved in this matter.
