Council accepts bids for HVAC replacement

Council has given the go-ahead for two companies to begin work on the replacement of three of the eight

Council has given the go-ahead for two companies to begin work on the replacement of three of the eight heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems at the Peter Lougheed Community Centre.

At its meeting, April 28 council unanimously voted in favor of accepted the tender for the HVAC replacement and coil cleaning to Rimbey Heating Ltd. for $139, 715.

They also voted unanimously to award the tender for the building controls upgrade is awarded to Direct Digital Controls Ltd. at the tendered price of $28,865.

Six bids were received to complete the air handling unit and cleaning of coils. As well as Rimbey Heating, LRL HVAC/R Solutions submitted a bid of $152,800, Cremac Metal Products Ltd. submitted a bid of $159,950, Civic Mechanical Ltd. turned in a bid of $188,680, Nordic bid $195, 423 and World Class Contracting Ltd. bid $198,820. Rimbey Heating’s bid was the only one that included air balancing.

As well as Direct Digital Controls & Service Ltd., bids for the controls upgrade were received by LRL HVAC/R Solutions for $39,485 and Nordic for $84,131.

Council discussed the bids in some length before making a decision.

Bruce Newbury, facilities supervisor for the Town of Rimbey was also on hand to answer questions about the HVAC replacement at the council meeting.

Coun. Mathew Jaycox stressed the importance of ensuring the job was done properly.

“We have all seen and lived through the pool fiasco,” he said. “We don’t want to see that again. We need pro-active maintenance because it is less expensive to do pro-active maintenance than repair.”

Council has budgeted $180,000 for the replacement of the first three of the eight HVAC systems requiring replacement. The cost of HVAC Replacement and Coil Cleaning and Direct Digital Controls Ltd. is $168,580 (GST not included).
