Council approves funding for repairs to fitness centre

At its regular meeting, May 27, council agreed to allocate up to $20,000 to repair the Community Fitness Centre.

Peter Stenstrom, director of community services, said the condition of the fitness centre has deteriorated to a point action needs to be taken to ensure it remains safe and attractive to the community.

He noted there have been some membership cancellations due to the concerns about the safety and functionality of some of the equipment and also the esthetic conditions in the current space.

Trail tender awarded

Council agreed to award the tender for construction of the 2013 walking trail to Border Paving Ltd. for $173,361. This tender includes extra work for the installation of a corrugated steel pipe to accommodate overland drainage in the area of the Provincial Building.

Clubs get grants

Council approved funding of $500 from the Community Events Grant Program for Rimbey Nursery School (spring dance fundraiser), the Rimbey & District Old Timers Association (annual reunion) and the Rimbey Masonic Lodge (ladies’ night).

Cheque’s in the bank

Mayor Sheldon Ibbotson received notification from Russ Watts, infrastructure manager for the central region of Alberta Transportation, that the 2013 municipal transportation grant of $142,680 has been electronically transferred to the Town of Rimbey.
