Council takes over bylaw services for region

The Town of Rimbey has plans to take over bylaw services for summer villages on Gull Lake and Sylvan Lake and in the process step up

The Town of Rimbey has plans to take over bylaw services for summer villages on Gull Lake and Sylvan Lake and in the process step up its own bylaw presence.

CAO Tony Goode said the service in Rimbey would double once the town takes over and the hours of the three bylaw officers will increase from 11 to 22.

The town is in the process of securing approval from the Solicitor General to operate the bylaw service for the town and the summer villages of Gull Lake, Parkland Beach, Sunbreaker Cove, Birchcliff, Norglenwold and Jarvis Bay.

The service had been provided by the Summer Village of Gull Lake, however the municipality has opted to let it go.

“They are getting out of it and will be contracting us to do the service,” said Goode.

He added the revenue for the regional bylaw service will be $159,650 for the first year and expenses will run at $121,524. The surplus will go into an equipment replacement reserve fund.

At its regular meeting Aug. 19 the town approved bylaw policies that will be submitted to the Solicitor General.
